Project Overview

During my time at Bazooka, I had the opportunity to work as a front-end developer and art director on a significant project celebrating the 100th anniversary of Lennart Nilsson, a renowned photographer. The project aimed to honor Nilsson's legacy by creating a digital platform that showcases his life's work, providing inspiration and knowledge to a broad audience.

The new website, developed in the first half of 2022, was designed to maintain interest in Nilsson's photographic achievements. It was built using WordPress as the CMS, with a component-based approach to offer editorial flexibility. A key feature of the site is the seamless scaling of text and images across different screen sizes, ensuring a cohesive user experience regardless of the device.

Signature

One of the standout elements of the project was the integration of Lennart Nilsson's signature into the digital space. We achieved this by translating his signature into an animated SVG using GSAP, blending analog and digital elements.

Uncropped. Unaltered. As Intended.

A critical aspect of presenting Nilsson's work was to ensure that the images were displayed in their intended formats without cropping or altering their appearance. This approach allows the photographs to speak for themselves and maintain their original impact.

Dark mode

Experience the artworks at their best — with the ability to switch between dark and light themes, visitors can tailor the viewing environment to suit each piece. Some photographs demand a darker setting to fully come alive, while others benefit from a bright, gallery-like atmosphere where the white space allows every detail to stand out.

Scope

The project encompassed several key areas, including concept and design, UX/UI design, strategy, web development, motion design, visual identity, and SEO. Our team focused on creating a visually appealing and user-friendly platform that effectively communicates the essence of Lennart Nilsson's work.

Honoring a Photographic Legacy

Overall, the project was a comprehensive effort to celebrate and preserve the legacy of a photographic master, providing a digital space where his work can continue to educate and inspire future generations.
